The
second edition of the Friendship Cup had the same format of the first:
8 teams divided into 2 groups. CFZ was in group A, together with
Botafogo, Fluminense and Ichikawa, while Flamengo, Vasco, Bangu and
Kashima Antlers were in group B. The first placed teams of each group
were Flamengo and Fluminense, and Flamengo ended up winning the final
match by 1 to 0. Fluminense’s midfielder Carlos Alberto, today the
team’s star, played the Friendship Cup. The highlight also goes to
Vasco, the third placed team, with Morais in the midfield. The CFZ,
coached again by Dudu Coimbra, even had a good start, smashing
Ichikawa by 5 to 0, its first goals in the tournament. But lost the
two following matches for Fluminense and Botafogo, thus being out of
the decisive stage once more.
