Adelaide: Australia´s Garden City
by Arthur Antunes Coimbra

After a period of rest in Rio with my grandson and all the family, I came back to work and, as a consequence, I´m traveling to cities that always provide beautiful photos and good stories. And in my first international trip with Bunyodkor my destiny was Adelaide, in Australia, home town of our opponent in the Asian Champions League semifinals.

The scenario is wonderful and quite unusual for people accustomed to my reviews about European towns with all their ancient history. Australia is a young country that was a British colony, and Adelaide was founded only in 1836. It´s a city 300 years younger than Rio de Janeiro.

Walking by the city, I could feel its youth and I noticed that gardens are all around. After all, that´s Adelaide´s own design. It has a lot of green, lakes and squares. At the same time, the city presents British architecture and modern buildings. Everything is very beautiful.

I took a picture of a plate that tells the history of Adelaide and mentions William Light, one of its founders. I also photographed some squares along the way. The city is very well organized and has a population of about a million inhabitants.

In Brazil, we heard the name of Adelaide because of Formula 1. From 1985 to 1995 the Australian Grand Prix was held in the streets of the town. Brazilian pilots made history with Senna´s two victories and Piquet´s first place. Until today those 10 years are unforgettable.

The Australian tradition in MotoGP, cricket, rugby and basketball is present in the city, that was the host of 14 Australian Open editions, one of the four Grand Slams in ATP tennis season. It´s clearly a city with special vocation for sports and culture. Good universities, characteristics of a developed country, added to the youth of Australia, make it a perfect place for festivals, spectacles and all kinds of artistic performances. And they have a great structure in transportation...

I couldn´t visit many places because I didn´t have a lot of time, but the beauty of Adelaide is perfectly noticed just wandering by its streets. That´s a big tip for everyone who is going... Around the World.
