20/11/2008 Bunyodkor prevented 7th Paxtakor title in a roll
Winning the Oliy Liga, the Uzbek national championship, was a great achievement for the young Bunyodkor. Paxtakor, the most important club in the history of Uzbekistan, had not lost one match since 2006 and, this year, they were beaten by Buny in the Uzbek Cup final. The traditional team also drawn twice with Kuruvchi and had an unexpected defeat against Metallurg.
Regular before Zico´s arrival and almost invincible after that, Bunyodkor built a seven points advantage that guaranteed the title two rounds before the end of the season and prevented the 7th Paxtakor title in a roll. Since 2002, Pax dominated the Oliy Liga. The team, also from Tashkent, has eight national titles, being the champions in 1998 and 1992, when they divided the glory with Neftchi, his predecessor that shone in the 90´s.
In the Uzbek Cup, Bunyodkor prevented the 8th consecutive title of Paxtakor. Achieving the Uzbek super champion, Buny puts an end to a hegemony that it seemed to perpetuate itself in the first decade of the 21st century.
